Random Stat: Player Leaders by Quarter
Q: Do you have stats for 4th quarter scoring average?
-- vjiuvoc and others
A: Ha! Do we have stats by quarter? We have databases with NBA numbers to the finest detail, with incredible insights into the hidden aspects of pro basketball and all you want is a simple "per quarter" average points?
Well, fair enough...

So yes, Kobe Bryant is the king of pure total points in virtually every quarter split, with only Iverson's insanely huge first quarter numbers preventing a clean sweep. Interestingly, Kobe's FG% is much worse in both the second and fourth quarters -- could he be tiring from so many minutes played or does he just go to too much of a "one man army" mentality at the close of a half?
LeBron James meanwhile is #2 in points per game for the 3rd and 4th quarters, and does so with a nifty field goal percentage -- 8% better than Kobe in the fourth!
Why stop with points though? Let's run through some other "box score highlights"

So Steve Nash leads all the way through until the fourth quarter where a fair amount of "garbage time" may come into play. Earl Watson may be playing in some meaningless games for the Sonics at this point, but he's definitely a keeper for his outstanding defense and team +/- influence!

So we see much more variety in who is on top for rebounds, and there is something to be said perhaps for the idea that being fresh is important for hitting the boards -- a tired player can't leap as quickly, as high or as often!
